So before the 2026 results drop, here is what the data actually says. Chemistry this year was harder than most expected, with heavy Class 11 coverage that many had not fully revised. The most common mistake I found while going through student queries was this: students were taking their raw exam score, looking up last year’s rank list, and walking away with a number that had nothing to do with their actual situation.

Before I get into the year-wise data, I want to address something that comes up constantly in the queries I see.

KCET is out of 180 marks. Three subjects, 60 marks each. But a significant number of students search specifically for KCET marks vs rank out of 240 marks, and the confusion is genuine.

Here is where 240 comes from. Students who write all four papers, i.e., Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology, sit for a total of 240 marks (60 × 4). Some students appear for all four, typically when they are applying to both Engineering and Agriculture or Pharmacy simultaneously.

For 2026, approximately 3.3 lakh candidates registered. Based on student feedback after the exam, Chemistry was harder than expected with a heavy focus on Class 11 topics that many had not fully revised, and Maths was conceptually manageable but very lengthy in execution. A harder Chemistry paper tends to pull overall scores down in the 90 to 130 range, which can slightly benefit students sitting in that band. 2025 was where I found the biggest single-year shift in the data. 3,30,787 students registered and 3,11,996 appeared. The share of reappearing candidates reached 26%, up from 18% in 2020. Better-prepared students concentrated in the top score bands and drove the marks required for the same rank noticeably upward. Rank 1 in Engineering that year went to a student with a combined score of 99.06%. The top 10 required 175 or above in raw exam marks, which was a clear jump from the 166 to 168 range of the two previous years.

KCET 2024 Marks vs Rank

2024 is the year that confuses students the most when they look at this data. The paper was slightly easier than 2023, and the marks required for each rank band shifted slightly downward as a result. This sounds counterintuitive: an easier paper should mean more competition, right? But what actually happens is that a more accessible paper spreads scores across a wider distribution, which reduces crowding at specific score points. The 2023 paper was moderately difficult. The top 10 ranks required marks in the 166 to 168 range, and the top 100 sat around the 150 to 160 band. This is the year where competition in the 130 to 150 range started visibly tightening compared to 2022. The candidate pool grew to roughly 2.8 lakh, and the share of JEE-parallel aspirants using KCET as a backup track was rising.

This is one of the most specific queries I found, and it deserves a direct answer rather than a general table. Here is what 120 out of 180 fetched across each year, with board PCM assumed at 88 to 92%:

What the KCET Mark vs Ranks Analysis Across Five Years Is Really Saying

Going through all this data, the pattern that holds at every rank level is straightforward: the same raw KCET score produces a progressively worse rank with each passing year, and the drift is steepest at the top of the distribution.

At ranks 1 to 100, the marks required jumped by roughly 7 to 9 marks between 2022 and 2025. This is the band most affected by reappearing JEE aspirants and students with very strong board marks. At ranks 3,000 to 15,000, the shift has been 4 to 6 marks over three years. Not as sharp, but enough to move someone from one college category to the next.
