2. MSRIT: What the Data Shows About the Second Most Competitive Option
MSRIT is consistently the second most competitive college among the top engineering colleges in Karnataka through KCET for CSE. The AI and ML branch at MSRIT closed within 500 ranks of core CSE in 2025. Most students treat AI and ML as a fallback. The data does not support that framing. 3. BMSCE: What I Found About One of Karnataka’s Oldest Engineering Colleges Through KCET
BMSCE was established in 1946. It is one of the most well-regarded institutions in this entire ranking. When I pulled the three-year trend data, the CSE KCET cutoff here has tightened by roughly 700 ranks between 2022 and 2025 in the extended round. It moved from approximately 2,200 to approximately 3,400. That is a meaningful shift, and I expect it to continue modestly in 2026.
One data point I kept returning to is BMSCE Industrial Engineering. It closed between 50,000 and 55,000 in 2025. 4. UVCE: What I Found About the Best Government Option in This List
UVCE is the only government autonomous college in top 10 engineering colleges in Karnataka through KCET list. Its fee structure is what sets it apart from every other college here. Annual tuition for KCET quota seats at UVCE is a fraction of what RVCE or BMSCE costs under the same quota.
When I factored in fees against placement outcomes, the return on investment at UVCE is the strongest of any college in this entire ranking. For students where total cost matters, and it should matter because four years of fees add up, UVCE in the 5,000 to 7,000 rank range deserves serious weight in the option entry list.

At 80,000 rank, the Bengaluru private college picture narrows significantly for well-known institutions. The colleges available at 80,000 rank in KCET fall into two main categories: smaller private colleges in Bengaluru and satellite towns, and Government Engineering Colleges in tier-2 cities.

What I Found for Engineering Colleges for Above 1 Lakh Rank in KCET
A rank above 1 lakh limits options at recognised colleges, but it does not eliminate them. I found over 200 engineering colleges affiliated under KCET and VTU across Karnataka. The question is not whether options exist. It is which ones are worth pursuing.
What I found available above 1 lakh rank in KCET:
- Government quota seats at VTU-affiliated colleges in Belgaum, Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, and Dharwad
- Annual government quota fees at these institutions: typically INR 35,000–45,000
- Private KCET seats in smaller Karnataka cities for core engineering branches
- MSRIT Automobile Engineering at the borderline (closing rank 95,000–1,00,000)
Government quota seats at VTU-affiliated colleges outside Bengaluru are the most cost-effective path at this rank. Management quota seats at the same colleges cost INR 80,000 to INR 1.5 lakh per year for the same classroom. COMEDK is also worth exploring at this rank. It operates as an independent route with its own college-wise cutoffs.
What I Found When I Looked at Why KCET Cutoffs Keep Tightening
KCET cutoffs at the top colleges have been moving in one direction for several years. I went back to 2022 to check whether the tightening at Tier 1 colleges was a recent development or something that had been building. It has been building steadily.
Year-wise extended round CSE closing ranks at top colleges:
- RVCE CSE: approximately 680 in 2022, approximately 930 in 2025 (250 ranks tighter in three years)
- MSRIT CSE: approximately 1,400 in 2022, approximately 2,200 in 2025
- BMSCE CSE: approximately 2,200 in 2022, approximately 3,400 in 2025
Three things are driving this across the top engineering colleges in Karnataka through KCET.
First, total KCET candidate count grew from 2.6 lakh in 2022 to 3.15 lakh in 2025. More students competing for the same number of KCET quota seats compresses the rank at every tier.
Second, the share of reappearing candidates grew from 18 percent of the pool in 2020 to 26 percent in 2025. These candidates combine a higher KCET exam score with stronger board marks from a second PUC attempt. They consistently push out first-attempt students at the top KCET colleges.
Third, average board PCM scores across Karnataka have trended upward over this period. That raises the effective merit rank of students relying on strong board performance to offset a moderate exam score.
For 2026, I expect Tier 1 CSE cutoffs at the top engineering colleges in Karnataka through KCET to tighten by 30 to 80 ranks relative to 2025. Mid-tier KCET college cutoffs should hold stable or move marginally upward. A harder Chemistry paper in KCET 2026 may ease pressure slightly in the 8,000–20,000 rank band. Tier 1 CSE cutoffs have not responded to paper difficulty in any year I looked at.
What the KCET Colleges List Looks Like Outside Bengaluru
Most searches for top engineering colleges in Karnataka through KCET are Bengaluru-focused. But the KCET colleges list includes strong options outside the city. These colleges are worth knowing about, especially for students who factor in cost of living alongside fees. Here are three that consistently stand out in the data.
- JSS Science and Technology University, Mysuru: Consistent NIRF ranking and strong industry relationships. Highest package INR 44 LPA. Average INR 7.2–12 LPA. Recruiters: Bosch, L&T, Infosys, TCS.
- Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur: Well-regarded for core engineering and research output. Highest package INR 41.54 LPA. Recruiters: HCL, TCS, Bosch, Wipro.
- The National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru: Strong record for ECE and Mechanical branches. Highest package INR 56 LPA. Recruiters: Philips, Lowe’s, KPIT.
Cost of living in Mysuru and Tumkur is significantly lower than Bengaluru. That is a real factor in total four-year expenditure. Most students underestimate it when comparing colleges under KCET.
