How is KEAM Rank Calculated?

KEAM rank is calculated by combining the KEAM entrance exam score and Class 12 (Plus Two) marks in a 50:50 ratio, as fixed by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations. The KEAM exam is for 600 marks, with +4 for every correct answer and -1 for every wrong answer. First, the raw KEAM score is normalized to maintain fairness among all candidates.

At the same time, the marks scored in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in Class 12 are also standardized because students come from different boards. After normalization, both scores are given equal weightage and combined to prepare the final index mark. Based on this combined score, the KEAM engineering rank list is released for counselling and admissions.

What is a Good rank in KEAM?

A good rank in KEAM depends on the college and branch a candidate is targeting. Generally, a rank within the top 5,000 is considered good for securing admission into reputed government engineering colleges in Kerala, while a rank within 1,000 – 2,000 is considered very good for highly competitive branches like CSE in premier institutes such as College of Engineering, Trivandrum. However, candidates with ranks between 5,000 and 15,000 can still get decent branches in good colleges, and even ranks up to 20,000 may secure seats in private institutions, depending on category, seat availability, and yearly competition trends.
